Maxim Won't Throw the Cross on St.Jordan's Day
There is no safe place for the ritual in Sofia, the Holy Synod reps maintain
Patriarch Maxim won't throw the Cross on the Day of Epiphany (St. Jordan's Day), sources from the Holy Synod said yesterday. The fact is that there's no safe place in Sofia where the ritual can be performed. The alternative Synod of Father Innocent, however, will throw the Cross in the lake in the 'Drouzhba' residential area. In Plovdiv the pedestrian's bridge is under repair, but it will be opened for an hour, so that Bishop Arsenius can throw the Cross into the Maritsa river. High Liturgy will be recited in all big churches throughout this country. Patriarch Maxim will make the traditional water sanctification of the battle flags and guardsmen units of the Bulgarian Army at 9 a.m. President Georgi Parvanov, Defence Minister Nikolay Svinarov and Chief of the General Staff, Gen. Nikola Kolev, will attend the solemn ritual in front of the Unknown Soldier Memorial.
