Epiphanic Water Heals All Ailments
On the day of Epiphany (St. Jordan's Day) people light up a new candle before the family icon. Ritual diving for the Cross reminds of the eternal revival of the Christ's Baptism
On this day in all towns and villages where there's a lake or river a ritual is performed - a priest throws the Cross from the local church into water. It should be taken out as a symbol of the eternal revival of the sacrament of Christ's Baptism. The youth who dives for the Cross and takes it out returns it to the priest. Later a High Liturgy is recited. Three ritual breads are kneaded on St. Jordan's Day - one is for the home, second, for the guests and the third is left at the gate together with a copper vessel filled with wine, to be given out to passers-by. With a candle brought from the church head of the family lights up a "new" fire in the icon-lamp in front of the family icon.
