BSP Liked Stanko Todorov's Son for Mayor

The prospective nominee is a personal friend of Stanishev. BSP stakes on an old party family

Andrey Stankov Todorov is the most strictly kept secret at the headquarters of the socialist party in 20, "Pozitano" Str. The son of Stanko Todorov, former member of Politburo and former chairman of the National Assembly, is the most probable BSP nominee for mayor in the coming local elections. This is what informed sources from the party headquarters said for "Standart". Andrey Todorov is an engineer and he has made no political appearance so far. His nomination is backed by the leader of the socialist party Sergey Stanishev. The two have been friends from childhood, commented on 20, "Pozitano" St. His mother Sonya Bakish, whose family were close friends with Dimitar Stanishev, father of BSP leader, also lobbied vigorously for Todorov. If the century-old party nominates Stanko Todorov's son for mayor of Sofia the eternal pretender for the mayor's office from the socialist party Roumen Ovcharov will fall out. BSP functionaries maintain that with this move Stanishev really aims far and high.

Bulgaria Again Implicated in Arms Scandal

A new attempt to implicate Bulgaria in an arms scandal was made these days. A month and a half after Bulgaria was invited to NATO, a US e-media is trying to tarnish the reputation of the trade company "Kintex". It broke the news that the firm is involved in illegal arms import in the USA. "Kintex", which was accused of arms trading with Iraq, armament of terrorist organizations, heroin smuggling and even of financing the attempt on Pope's life, is now trying to sneak into the new and huge market - that of the USA", runs the article in the e-issue of "St. Louis Today". They knew nothing about the case in the Economy and Foreign Ministries yesterday. "There were no inquiry from US side", said employees. "Kintex" have really effected a transaction to the USA for AK-47 automatic guns. The transaction is completely legal and the company has all licences at the moment of the transaction", is the standpoint of the Ministry of Economy. There's no such thing as Bulgarian affair, Bulgarian ambassodor to the USA Elena Poptodorova said.

The Commander Confuses Dates

The day when Videnov was ousted, January 10, is nearing and the entourage of Ivan Kostov started thinking about coups again. They again stage scandals about bugging, spying and arms affairs. Their aim is clear - to shake the government. But the Commander confuses the dates. It isn't 1992 nor 1997. And the transparent plots like that today seem more than absurd. If Kostov's people simply itching to hatch something, this is another story. If they have decided to speak up, let them tell people the truth about 'Himko', 'Balkan' and 'Plama'.
