Policeman at Each Vineyard on St. Trifon's Day
TPD patrols watch for drink-drivers on Monday. The TPD officers will be lurking with breathalyzers near the pubs
On the very Saint Trifon's Day (the day of the Bulgarian winegrowers) the patrols of the Traffic Police Directorate (TPD) will be lurking at each vineyard, vigilantly watching for drink-drivers. Following the ancient tradition, the people will go notching (vine-twig cutting ritual) tomorrow, drinking wine to their hearts' content. After that, they will get in their cars quite boozed and dizzy. We will tighten the checkups in the wine-growing regions, so as the holiday not to be troubled by traffic accidents, TPD officers explained. Their patrols will also be lurking near the very pubs. We will check with a breathalyzer the people, who go out of the pub. We will not let boozed ones drive, policemen said. According to the statistical data, most traffic accidents on the St. Trifon's day occurred because of alcoholic intoxication. The medics of the Pirogov Emergency Institute are ready for an influx of blind-drunk people. On February 14 last year, Pirogov was full of pupils in alcoholic coma, medics remember.

Standart Tells the Truth
Serbian newspaper Danas blamed Standart daily for misinterpreting their article on the ethnic Bulgarians in Serbia. In its Friday issue, Danas cited a conversation with a tradesman from a Serbian market, who said that "the Bulgarians in Pirot must all be exterminated and slain." In its yesterday's issue, however, the daily attacked the article, published by Standart, even though it sticks precisely to what was written in Danas. "We will continue to defend the rights of the Bulgarians who live in the Western regions," declared Standart daily editor-in-chief Yullee Moskov for the BBC.
