The politicians are attracted to the limelights like moths are attracted to candlelight. This fact was proved once again on Monday for the journalists' feast was not an event to miss. Even more that this is not a place where anyone would start asking embarrassing questions. Sofia Mayor Boyko Borissov was the first of the high guests to enter the hall of the National Theatre in Sofia. Later Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev arrived in company of Minister of Economy Petar Dimitrov. The appearance of Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov gave the start of the awarding ceremony. Minutes later, Minister of Culture Stefan Danailov rushed in the hall, embarrassed by his delay.
The prestigious Chernorizets Hrabar awards for journalism are handed for a sixth year in a row. They are given by the Union of Publishers in Bulgaria. In heated competition with two ladies: Kristina Patrashkova and Pepa Vitanova, The Standart's First Deputy Editor-in-Chief didn't turn to be much of a cavalier for he took the prize in the new category - Culture - where the competition was really challenging. He won for he has no peer when the word is about Cyril and Methodius and the Bulgarian alphabet.
When Bulgaria's Prime Minister appeared on the stage, it was obvious that something important was to take place: PM Stanishev announced that the Chernorizets Hrabar grand prix for campaign with significant public echo was awarded to the You Are Not Alone mission organized by The Standart, bTV and Darik Radio.
The Standart's Editor-in-Chief Mrs Slavka Bozukova took the prize. She went through this exciting moment for the second time: in 2002 she herself became the winner of Chernorizets Hrabar for journalistic investigation.
