text sizeDisgrace! Europe Stops Funds to Bulgaria
Bulgaria is to lose 220 million euro, twice as much money to be frozen
Bulgaria has suffered its worst disgrace after its EU accession. Brussels stopped 220 million euro meant for road infrastructure. The EC refused to bring back the accreditations of the two agencies on the Phare program to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and the Ministry of Finance.
The reasons for the harsh slap is the lack of verdicts for corruption, stated Cristina Nagy, spokesperson of the EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn.
Another 454 million euro are still under question. For the first time in the history of the EU, the commissioners put such a sanction, as regards the Euro funds, to a member state, world agencies commented.
The Bulgarian power was shocked and the opposition immediately demanded resignations.
