Polar Cold Paralyses the Balkans

Polar cold and snowstorms have paralyzed the Balkans. The record-breaking low temperatures were measured in Eastern Turkey - in Erzurum temperatures fell below 36 C. Weathermen forecast that bad weather will persist and snowstorms are expected across the entire peninsula. The situation is the most critical in Northern Albania where snow cover is over 0.5 m thick. There is no power supply in most of the regions there. Heavy snow and low temperatures have hit Macedonia as well, but roads are practicable. Today, however, temperatures will fall sharply and snow cover will reach 25 cm. It is icy cold in Greece too. Meteorologists forecast glaze frost, heavy snow and high wind in the continental parts of Greece, where temperature may fall to minus 13 C.
