Remarkable sumo wrestler of Bulgarian origin, Kaloyan Mahlyanov Kotooshu scored a win in this year's edition of the Haru Basho tournament in Tokyo. President Georgi Parvanov and his wife Zorka Parvanova, who are on a four-day official visit in Japan, watched Mahlyanov's success live. Kotooshu's win on the last day of the tournament means that he will keep his Ozeki rank. However, the support of Bulgaria's first couple was not enough for Kotooshu to win the Emperor's Cup. Mongolian yokozuna Asashoryu won the cup and was decorated with a golden Bulgarian Rose by Acad. Blagovest Sendov, ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Japan. Today, Bulgaria's first couple is scheduled to have an audience with Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan. The hosts will honor Bulgaria's Head of State and his spouse with a special lunch at their palace in Tokyo. Later, President Parvanov is scheduled to have talks with representatives of the upper and the lower houses of the Japanese parliament.
