"Global finance crisis increases the risk of human and drug trafficking, smuggling of goods and money laundering. The traffickers usually use well-known channels and methods, so we have to act decisively to eradicate this social plight. Every year, 800,000 people fall victims of human trafficking worldwide, about 80% of them being women.
Human trafficking compacting has always been a priority to the U.S. Government. We consider human traffic an offense of personal dignity. Putting traffickers behind bars usually is not enough to stop them, but cutting out their finances is.
Speaking of combating human beings traffic, Bulgaria is on the front line. Practice shows that usually the crime rings act more quickly than the law enforcers trying to stop them.
Bulgaria has made some progress in combating money laundering, but it is far from enough. We are ready to help. One of our recommendations involves the report of all transactions worth more than 30,000 levs. Also, the authorities working against finance frauds have a very low credit rating - 80% of the Bulgarian citizens find the judicial system inefficient.
