Sofia is the best city to live in Bulgaria, according to the ranking for 2009. Varna used to win the first place the last two years. This year Sofia won 234 votes and Varna - ranked second by a vote short. Bourgas ranked third with 219 votes, reported the organizers from Darik Radio, 24 Chassa Daily and DarikNews.bg. Forty-four cities and towns in Bulgaria competed for the first place and were graded according to 32 criteria. Sofia took the top marks in the spheres of investments in infrastructural projects, stores working time, a number of restaurants of different national cuisines, places one could have nice coffee in the downtown and drugstores working around the clock. The bitter environmental issues, though, are still a plague for the city housing two million people.
