text sizeMean Temperatures in Bulgaria to Rise by 3-4 C
The expected rise of mean temperatures in Bulgaria will be 3-4 C, as in the Black Sea region it will be higher - 4-5 C. According to the prognoses, rainwater on the Iberian Peninsula will drop by 40%. Due to the global warming agricultural produce in Europe will shrink by 10% to 30% and Bulgaria will be among the most hardly hit countries.
Scantier rainfalls and higher temperatures would lead to lasting droughts, 'hot waves' and more frequent wildfires. Till 2100 the level of the world ocean will rise by 80 cm compared to the pre-industrial period. Thus the Old Continent could face a serious problem because near 50% of the Europeans are living in the 50-kilometer coastal zone of seas, oceans or along the lower courses of rivers.
Mountain regions will be affected, too. There temperatures are expected to rise by 2 degrees. Meteorologists maintaine that by 2050 about 75% of Alpine glaciers will disappear.
