European Commission Considers Burgas-Alexandroupolis Project

The European Commission will consider the pros and cons of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline.  The environment ministers of Bulgaria and Greece are scheduled to meet next week to hammer out a mutually acceptable strategy for the realization of the project. The news was announced by Bulgaria’s President Georgi Parvanov following a working lunch with new Greek PM George Papandreou in Athens.
In addition to Burgas Alexandroupolis, the two also discussed the other big energy projects.
"We gave more guarantees about the energy security of the two countries," President parvanov said during his official visit to Athens.
Parvanov and panadreu also discussed the possibilities of opening new border checkpoints between Bulgaria and Greece, as well as the road of the Western Balkans to EU accession.
