Archaeologists Search Traces of Knights Templar's Presence in Mediaeval Bulgaria

The boyars in Veliko Tarnovo used to wear knight's belts and French rings

"Bulgarian archaeologists are searching for a Mediaeval Gothic knight's temple," broke the news Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov, head of the newly established private institute for research of Mediaeval History to the Order of the Knights Templar. He and his colleagues will make a profound research of the scientific arguments in support of the legends for the presence of Knight Templar in Bulgaria.
The archaeologists are explicit that during the Forth Crusade (1204 -1207) influential knights on the Balkans guarded the road to the Holy Lands. Most probably some of them built a temple and a bank in the Bulgarian town of Veliko Tarnovo.
Prof. Ovcharov has reminded that both the Knights Templar and the Freemasons used early Christian symbols to mark their lodges. The symbols have been created some 200 years before the establishment of the secret societies. This is the reason why the presence of Knights Templar's symbols in Bulgaria doesn't necessarily mean development of lodges on the country's territory.
