A donation campaign, dedicated to the 750th anniversary of the creation of the paintings in the Boyana church, has been launched. The 13th century Boyana church is one of Bulgaria's most significant cultural treasures. It's on the UNESCO's World Heritage list.
The campaign is under the patronage of Bulgaria's PM Boyko Borissov, Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov and Minister without Portfolio Bozhidar Dimitrov and will be carried out with the cooperation of Bulgaria's National Commission for UNESCO.
The campaign aims at initiating collection of donations in the form of money, materials and services, meant to be invested in the improvement and socialization of this church's surroundings.
The campaign starts with a release of a CD with films about the Boyana Church, which is famous for its remarkable murals, painted by an unknown artist, which exhibit a new humanistic tendency in Mediaeval art. A total of 240 realistic figures, depicting personages from the Bulgarian everyday life at the time, are displayed in biblical scenes on the walls of the unique church.
The films are translated in Bulgarian, English, German, French, Russian and Japanese. Forty percent of the collected sums will be allotted for the noble campaign.
