The former task officer has been found to owe the Bulgarian state 1.5 million levs of unpaid taxes
The Bulgarian court is about to convict Alexey Petrov, like once Al Capone was, for tax evasion. The former task officer was arrested on charges for leading a gangster group. Now he will be sued for tax evasion. According to Bulgaria's Minister of Interior, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Petrov owed the Bulgarian state 1.5 million levs (1euro = 1.95 levs). The tax collectors' reports will be attached to the case documents against Petrov. As an undercover agent he earned millions from consulting for companies, according to Minister Tsvetanov. "With his uncovering, his mission is over and the property he has accumulated will be confiscated for the state's benefit," Mr. Tsvetanov said.
According to investigators, the Committee for Confiscation of Property Obtained through Criminal Activity has started cataloging Alexey Petrov's money and property and will ask for a distraint.
