Computer Boom Heralds Comeback of Matriarchate

Over 100,000 Bulgarian men admit they have taken the role of a “housewife” in the family, according to the results of the last census. They even don’t seek a job, because they take care of the children. Is matriarchy the new social order in Bulgaria? Or men just gave up facing the challenges of the crisis and left survival in the hands of the fair sex?

Constantine Sabchev
There is nothing neither strange nor humiliating in the fact that an increasing number of the representatives of the “stronger sex” opt for staying at home while their better halves make money and provide for the family. Today the technological revolution helped us achieve what communist gurus used to promise – deleting margins between intellectual and manual labor. Paraphrasing the saying by famous inventor of the revolver Samuel Colt “God created man and woman, while computer has given them equal opportunities.”
It turns out that often women handle not just the computer mouse better than men, but also laws, business, politics, science and medicine. Sociologists and psychologists confirm unanimously that ladies are more loyal employees. And besides all that – let’s tell the truth – women are more studious than boys and they start life equipped with better knowledge. So in the long run there is nothing wrong with this new matriarchy. On the opposite – men could take some burden off the family budget by making repairs at home. Besides, children have more respect to daddy so from the educational point of view society benefits when men stay at home.
