Atomstroyexport in Standby Mode on NPP Belene

This is the reactor meant for the first power unit of Bulgaria’s NPP Belene, but as the facility has not been built yet, it might become the seventh nuclear reactor of NPP Kozloduy Photo: Atomstroyexport
The Russian constructor of Bulgaria’s NPP Belene has switched to a standby mode.
As a first step, the company has decided to downsize its Bulgarian workforce on the site of NPP Belene, the Atomstroyexport representative in Bulgaria told the Standart.
This move of the Russian constructor has reportedly been provoked by the lack of decision on the part of Bulgaria’s energy utility NEC regarding the project’s future.
Sources from the company said the maintenance of the site was rather costly.
Rosatom (subsidiary of Atomstroyexport) is observing all commitments that the company has taken on the NPP Belene projects, despite the lack of any particular decision on the Bulgarian part.
