Half of Bulgarian university diplomas are of no use. 57% of the people with university education are on job positions, which don't require high education. This data is from a research made by Open Society Institute on labour market, most demanded professional qualification and the needs of business. Bulgarian universities train a mass of economists and administrators. In the last five years 226 thousand university graduates came out on the labour market as the majority of them are prepared to work in the sphere of economy, administration and management, Executive Director of Open Society Institute Georgi Stoychev announced. 55,000 have a degree in economics, which is more that all taught in engineering and natural sciences.
As a whole over 70% of the graduates find their place at the official labour market in Bulgaria, other 25% are supposed to choose the grey sector or work abroad. The unemployment among the young higher graduates is 4%, at 10% overall unemployment rates for the country, according to data from November 2011. Young specialists in Security, Health Care and IT are most demanded. Fewest opportunities for the young are offered in the tourism, agrarian sector and the industry where unemployment rates are the highest. Remuneration is highest in the public sector, mining and the IT sector, payment is lowest in the sphere of social services, the survey shows. Every second medical student leaves for abroad upon graduation.
