Bulgaria’s Wonders Initiative Inspires Patriotism

- Professor Dimitrov, The Standart daily has launched the second edition of Bulgaria’s Wonders campaign. One of its goals is at least two more Bulgarian cultural sites to be included in the UNESCO list of world heritage. Which are the eligible?
- Bulgaria has a lot of historical monuments and each of them deserves to be part of UNESCO list of world heritage. The problem is that Bulgarian monuments were created by seven civilizations and come to us nearly ruined. Of course, Bulgarian archaeologists can unearth them and restore the sites partially or entirely, but the issue is if UNESCO would recognize them as original monuments as there is a requirement restoration works to be quite limited. I think that old Bulgarian capitals Pliska and Preslav are the eligible candidatures, as well as the town of Veliko Tarnovo with the two historical hills Tsarevets and Trapezitsa and the Old Town presenting life during the national revival period. All of them could be united in one UNESCO monument.
