text sizeTrade Unions Push for 10% Increase of Pensions in Bulgaria
"It was a really nice move on the part of Finance Minister Djankov to connect the cash registers of all private businesses in Bulgaria directly to the national revenue agency and, on the other hand, it was a serious blow on the grey economy in the country. The turnover of the private sector in Bulgaria has increased by one billion levs in a month alone," said Mr. Plamen Dimitrov, President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria.
In his words, the higher revenues from taxes will allow a ten-percent increase of the pensions and public sector salaries as of January 1, 2013.
The trade unions have calculated that the increase will cost the government one billion levs that should be provided in next year's draft budget.
