During the annual gathering of sheep breeders near Arbanassi, agriculture minister Miroslav Naydenov promised them five million levs in compensations for the soaring prices of fuels and state-guaranteed quotas of lamb to be exported to Qatar.
In his words, the oncoming national holiday of the Bulgarian Army, May 6th, is the only chance of the sheep breeders across the country to sell their production.
Greece, which is a traditional market for lamb from Bulgaria each spring, is now battered by severe economic problems and political instability, but the Arab world is always hungry for good quality lamb at bargain prices.
Minister Naydenov named Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia as possible markets for Bulgarian lamb.
