An old mobile phone caused the blast at the ammunition utilization facility near Yambol in central Bulgaria. This is the conclusions of the experts who saw yesterday the photographs taken by a Desert Cat vehicle from the explosion’s site. The workshops of the Bereta Trading Company were completely destroyed.
A mobile phone left on vibration went off and caused a detonation of a live shell in workhouse number one. The experts were shocked to see not one but two mobiles in the storehouses.
"The blast formed a huge crater with a diameter of about 7-8 meters", Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Defense Valentin Radev stated.
Deputy Minister Radev inspected the investigation on the accident all day yesterday.
Yesterday evening the investigators found out that the employees used mobile phones and smoked in the workshop. The Yambol town prosecution has already initiated a preliminary pre-trial procedure. At this stage the owner of the ammunition depot Dessislav Dobrev has already been called as a witness.
