text sizeArchaeologists Unearth Rare Coins in Sozopol
Bulgarian archeologists unearthed a real treasure during the excavation works in the Black Sea resort town of Sozopol. They ran onto a rare find digging out the necropolis of ancient Apollonia. It was jar with 225 bronze coins dating back to the 4th century B.C. All coins are in perfect condition. Archeologists assume they were minted in the region of Apollonia. They feature anchor on one side and Apollonius, patron saint of the town, on the other. According to experts the jar is a hidden treasure not part of a burial ritual.
