Sofia mayoress Fandukova to remove illegal Roma camping grounds
"The illegal Gypsy camps in Sofia will be destroyed. Those who live there will have to move to their places of birth. This is a big problem but we have no time to postpone its solution," Sofia mayoress Yordanka Fandukova told The Standart.
The mayor of Lyulin residential district has already removed some of the camps in the area. The inspection in Orlandovtsi district has also been completed and the illegal ramshackle buildings have been listed. The other districts in Sofia will also go through this procedure.
"The older Gypsies mainly live by thefts while their kids are forced to panhandle," Sofia citizens complain.
"Everyone is welcome to Sofia but none can live in illegal building and on plots of land which are not their property," Mrs Fandukova was explicit.
