In 1885, the Bulgarian Red Cross organization was established, the first chair was Metropolitan Climent.
In 1916, Ivan Vazov was nominated for a literature Nobel Prize.
In 1948, Srebarna natural reserve was founded.
In 1997, the seven existing lodges of the Free Masons united in the Grand Lodge of the Old Constitution, Free and Accepted Masons of Bulgaria. The first to preside the Grand Lodge was Ivan Stavrev.
