Bulgaria Allies with Neighbouring Countries against Natural Disasters
The insurance against earthquake or flood of a home that costs 20,000 euro in Bulgaria will be 80 levs (1 euro = 1.95 levs), it emerged at a seminar in the winter resort of Borovets, attended by representatives of the World Bank. The obligatory insurance of buildings against earthquake can be evaded via the establishment of a common catastrophe pool for the whole of Southeastern Europe that will include 10 to 15 countries. "Bulgaria can only profit from sharing the risk of natural calamities with neighbouring countries, rather than establishing a catastrophe pool of its own," believes Eugene Gurenko, a leading expert in the World Bank.
