SIM Cards Sell Only Against ID in Bulgaria
From January 1, 2009, those who want to purchase a SIM card in Bulgaria will have to show their ID to the vendor.
This is a decision of the members of the Parliamentary Transport Committee. They voted an amendment to the Electronic Communications Act. Bulgaria's Interior Ministry demanded the amendment to prevent the use of mobile phones with anonymous SIM cards as bomb detonators. Anonymous SIM cards are also used for blackmail and in cases of abduction.
